Ah, but you see Day The Earth Stood Still was around long before this remake, so its hard to not have seen it. Like Village Of The Damned or The Fog. I grew up with the originals, and seeing them redone now is just sad to me, because they were not that great to begin with.

Taking your list:

War of the Worlds - Loved the original - Lame (Scary Movie version was better)
Starship Troopers - Read the book after - GREAT! (I Agree)
Lord of the Rings - Read the books - Return of the King was ok

If people want to remake movies, if they have absolutely nothing else to do and I am surprised they can't be original anymore, that's fine but I'm not going to be an audience for those movies. It's like the newer Marvel comics movies, where the characters are going against updated story lines that I am unaware of since I have not bought or read a comic book in almost 20 years.

I did hear some comments on the movie at lunch, it was pretty well panned, pretty much like you said, emotionless and a really badly, tacked on happy ending.

If they want to update a movie do a bad one up real well like Orgy Of The Dead, Village Of The Giants or The Astounding She-Monster. Yes, I know my really bad movies...
