I am doing some research into using Siebel's Test Automation API to overcome the many and various issues of automating Siebel. If anyone has any experiences, either good or bad I would be most grateful. FYI I have the option of using a number of automated tools such as QTP, TestPartner, Robot and Silk Test. Many regards Ray

The good thing about the Siebel Test Automation API, IMO, is that it takes care of a lot of the work you would otherwise have to do in developing a framework.
The bad thing, at least from using QTP, is that it doesn't take care of everything, which is pretty typical. If you've tried looking at Siebel 7.7 in a browser through the API, you'll see everything is locked out. Fortunately, QTP (and logically the others) running the Siebel add-in unlocks the frames so for the horrendously unavailable things (like opening a text area popup), you can roll your own code to get to these things like you would with a standard framework.
I didn't know TestPartner and SilkTest worked with Siebel...is that Siebel 7.7 or earlier versions?

Hi Ray.
I represent Serpico Software – who currently specialise in functional test automation for Siebel. If you would like to talk about Siebel automation then please contact me on d.wallis@scriptmap.com. It won’t be a hard sell of the tool – we will be happy to just offer some advice and share our experiences of the API. Best Regards - Dyfed Wallis
