Testing Results - Email
      #718993 - 10/30/12 08:32 AM

Hello,

New to QA Automated Software and am using Test Complete. I have a bunch of keyword driven test cases written (approx 20) which run great. These test cases run when we have system outages. Problem is I still have to monitor the tests as they run to make sure everything is ok. I'd like to somehow have the results emailed via email after each test suite runs. This would be much more efficient to where I would not have to physically monitor (watch) the test cases run and instead just look for the email results.

Again these are all written in keyword tests. My question is the following:

In order for me to have results emailed do I need to convert my keyword tests to scripted test cases and use some call saveas...functions? Can I not have the results emailed with just my keyword test cases? there is no function or option in the test complete that stores and emails results?

Please advise.

Yes, there is. You can absolutely email yourself, or anyone else, the results of your tests. This function:
Code:

Log.SaveResultsAs(sFileName,lsHTML,true);

will export your log to a file as a folder. If you want, you can export it to an .MHT file by changing the second parameter to lsMHT. You can also use the SendMail function to send out the file directly from your scripts.

Hi Will,

Thanks for your reply...a couple of followup questions:
I was able to get my results stored using the following:

Call TestedApps.WINWORD.Run(-1, True)
FileName = project.ConfigPath + "Log\MyResults.html"
Log.SaveResultsAs FileName,1
the above is just a test trying to get it to store results...
now i'm trying to get it to email me these results and I was using:
IF SendMail("pXXXX@XXXX.XXX","?????","PXXX XXXX","pXXXX@XXXX.XXX","Testing","Testing","C:\Users\pXXXX\Desktop\TestEmailResults\TestEmailResults\Log\MyResults.html") THEN
Log.Message "Mail was sent"
Else
Log.Warning "Mail was not sent"

But this is failing. My question is it states I need to plug in the FromHost up above where I have the ????marks. Is this the Host Name from teh Mail Server?

Hi Pedro,

That's an SMTP mail server name.

ok I got our smtp mail server name and plugged it in. Now when I run this I get:

SendMail.
Socket Error #10013
Access denied.
Error location:
Unit: "TestEmailResults\TestEmailResults\Script\Unit1"
Line:6 Column:1.

My Mail server DB is asking me:
I do need know which server is running sendmail as it needs to be authorized to relay from the host.

I am running TestComplete from my local machine.

Hi Pedro,

Are you using some public email address (gmail, hotmail, etc..)? If you are, what is it exactly?
If you are using an email address of your company, you'd better contact your IT team to learn what server name to use.
