Artwork at Work
      #717565 - 10/05/12 05:55 AM

My company finally decided to paint and re-carpet the office (it was getting rather shabby). That sounds nice.

The HR Director who was running the project told me that we were going to have new artwork hung once the painting was complete. Hmm, that might be ok.

They finally hung the "art". It's all motivational posters: http://www.successories.com/categories/Motivational-Posters/Entire-Collection/15/1 Sigh.

Perhaps I got my hopes up too high. This is all I can think of when I see the "art": http://www.despair.com/motivation.html

Anyone else work in an office graced by these beauties?

I stand by my previous comment on the deMotivational Posters thread you made before...awesome stuff!

Right now I work in an open office so there is thankfully little artwork, but they do have inspirational quotes around on the walls. Most come from Quality Improvement experts like Deming and Juran since the organization focuses on improving healthcare quality.

When the fire alarm goes off you also get to listen to "music".

Thanks, Ian! I'd love to see them, although I honestly don't think hanging them in the office would fly with the parent company. They sort of frown on that sort of thing.

I really appreciate the thought, though!

Believe me, I've considered that. Pre-acquisition, I would have already done so. And, I would likely have had help from several others here.

My conclusion - that would be what we call "a career-limiting move" in the new corporate structure.

I guess the only thing I can say is years ago when I worked at Peter Norton Computing we had some awesome artwork in our offices. We had some David Hockney work that was great to look at. Peter was a modern art collector.

But ever since then I've had to use my own U/W photography (if allowed) to color the walls of my cube over the years.

Joe Strazzere

I find HR departments very odd, why are they so delusional about such stuff that the openly throw out such propaganda ?

I would just prefer they select art that makes it a pleasant place, HR departments can also be very arrogant, the main reason I like being a contractor. Twice I have threatened HR groups with legal action, often they don't seem to know labour laws or even common law.

One place I worked put a 60" print of this one up in reception. I had it printed at a specialist printer as redbubble don't do 60" prints. I did a 40" print for home.

Both printed by a process called FuliFlex.

All the pics in our office are photos taken by staff for an internal photo competition that have been blown up and nicely framed. They only got put up for the judging but were so popular they stayed up.

The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The question here is because it was a work thing who retains IP for the works? Did your company sign off and say the respective works remain the property of the photographer?

I have sold a print to one of my work places for the recpetion area but I certainly retained IP for the image.
