Open Source Mobile App. Performance Testing Tools
      #716737 - 09/20/12 01:18 AM

Hello,

I need to test Mobile Applications developed for Android and I-phone devices.
I need to test it with many(50-200) simultaneous users through Parameterization.
Earlier, i have used HP Loadrunner 11.5 trial version and got the results.
But, now i am looking for Open Source Tools.

1> I searched on the web and came to know that JMeter can be used for Mobile "Web" Performance Testing.
I want to know whether it can be used for Mobile "Application" Performance Testing also?
Also, JMeter has got good community support.

2> How about SOASTA CloudTest?
Its demo version Cloudtest lite is for free and we can run up to 100 concurrent virtual users which is hosted in the Cloud.
More info. can be found here: http://www.perftesting.co.uk/soasta-high-level-benefits/2012/01/18/

Does this Cloudtest has got good community support?

---> Please suggest any other tools if there are any.

Thanks & Regards,
Vikram

JMeter can be used for mobile apps if the apps communicate with the server using a protocol that JMeter supports (such as HTTP). If you are willing to add support for a protocol to JMeter, then this is not a limitation.

SOASTA is not open-source, so it doesn't fit your criteria.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for your answer.

I had read your answer at that time only, but replying you now. Apologies for that.

Installed JMeter 2.6 and started working on it.

Now, firstly testing ASP.NET web application as my boss wants it to be done first. Finding the tool very interesting.

Thanks & Regards,
Vikram

While NeoLoad is not free, it is very reasonably priced, and you need a mature enterprise tool to load tests these latest mobile apps. NeoLoad records either directly from the Iphone or using an emulator, your choice. The headers and agents are all manipulated if using the easy to use Emulator. Also, its important to emulate the mobile networks as well, NeoLoad supports all major mobile networks (3G, Edge, etc). You can create highly dynamic scripts using variables. Easily parameterize the login for unique users. Please download a free trial at www.neotys.com.
