Microsoft Test Manager
      #687318 - 10/03/11 07:04 AM

Hello,

I'm trying to find a testing tool that fits for the new company I am working with, which is all .NET

At first glance Microsofts Test Manager looks promising. Has anyone work with these tool and can share some experiences? (Good or bad) Or would you recommend a different tool?

Thanks in advance!

MTM is a manual test tool that also manages the test cases and requirements. You can record the manual steps but that's about it as far as automation goes unless you use Coded UI Test.

Is Codes UI not a part oder MTM? We would need a tool that can both be used for manual and automated testing.

Coded UI is a separate tool that is available in Visual Studio 2010 Premier or Ultimate editions. You can automate the manual tests that are created in MTM or you can automate a test from scratch.

Would you recommend the usage of this testing tools or should we use something else?

That depends on your budget and if the tool works with your application. I do know that Coded UI doesn't support Infragistics controls. I would contact Microsoft and see if you can schedule a POC and have them use your application.

Microsoft Test Manager requires one of Visual Studio Test Professional, Visual Studio Premium, or Visual Studio Ultimate. In addition you will need a TFS Server Express or higher. Like the other express production TFS Server Express is free, but it only supports up to five developers.
