Can QALoad run on VM an64 bit Windows for more RAM
      #704650 - 04/19/12 09:37 AM

Wanting to consolidate Players a current constraint is RAM which is restricted to 4Gb on 32bit Windows.

Should QALoad v5.X (what is X for this?) work successfully on 64bit Players which can access many times the RAM?

Also: Can the Sentinel and the Conductor work on VMWare Windows VMs?

Am presuming Player must be Physical to make timing accurate?

Hello,

Do you have access to the Installation Guide? Based on the System Requirements section it seems to imply that only 32-bit is supported. So you would either have to try it or call MicroFocus to ask.

I don't understand the "what is X for this" question... The latest version of QALaod is 5.9 websync 4 (where 'websync' is MicroFocus' term for 'service pack').

What is Sentinel? This is not a QALoad term. QALoad will work on a VM. Whether or not this is ideal for accurate timing... well that is a whole discussion in itself.

An additional follow up. RAM is not the only constraint. I don't know what PCs you are using now, but in the past I have had PCs with only 1MB RAM that were memory bound to 64 users* each PC. So we doubled the RAM.

The end result was that I was then able to increase to 80 some users each PC before I hit the CPU utilization constraint.

So that is something to keep in mind, it is more than just RAM.

* I know these number of users are low compared to some tools. Depends on the application, the amount of parsing, java script, and so on...

Hi,

Base on below 3 ways, you can reclaim more memory;

1.Working on thread based run mode will also help you to save memory and aid in running more users.
2.Check for the services which are running unnecessarily in player machines and remove them. This will help you to reclaim some additional memory.Stop any services related to anti virus too temporarily.
3. Increase virtual memory of the machine.

Regards,
Mahesh

32 bit apps can only access 2^32 memory. So, installing on a machine for load generation with greater than 4GB is going to be rather fruitless, with one exception. Instead of having to share the address space with the OS and other apps your load generation "should" receive a full 32 bit WOW32 address space on a 64 bit load generator. You will reclaim some memory in this case that would normally be allocated to the OS and other apps running.
