Not yet, still using my original iPad. ;-)
Wife uses it mostly for Netflix, FB, email, and reading magazines.

cool/heat jokes aside...
I had the original iPad, but sold it after a few months. I just can't stand the iEverything lock-down ecosystem.
My next tablet device was a Kindle Fire. Really slick hardware at a great price point.. but again... totally restricted in what you can do with it (thanks to Amazon's attempt at lock-in). The Amazon app store is a joke and their crippled outdated Android builds mask what the device is capable of. But... with a with a *lot* of work, I got the Kindle Fire rooted/unlocked and am now able to flash new OS builds onto it (CyanogenMod rocks!):

I'm currently hacking on a Zenithink 10" c91 tablet running Android 4 ICS...
I'm also really impressed with the newest Samsung Galaxy Tablets, and hope to get the 7.0plus or the upcoming 7.7.
Linux on [any] ARM devices is what really excites me lately... whether in the form of Android, or an updated GNU/Linux based OS (lots of cool development in this area going on).

Looks like this joke has already been made.
We're still on the last version and I see no reason to upgrade.

I have seen the reports of the new iPad running hotter but I would suspect that this is going to happen as they start adding more powerful and tweaking the processor on these devices.

While my new iPad runs warmer than my fiancee's iPad 2, our 15" and 17" MacBook Pro laptops run hotter (though the MBP's built in fan rarely kicks in). And the Dell craptop I use at work beats them all, with the built in fan running fairly often.
And it looks like CNET has test results that confirm the relative "toastiness" of the new iPad to other devices -

I have talked about testing devices for heat in the Mobile Devices forum and there is a direct relationship with the heat, network activity and software behavior. Mobile device testers, no matter the device must start to understand hardware/firmware/software system integration testing to truly "test the software" and not just focus on application testing.
I am going to be doing a presentation/white paper on this type of testing in July at CAST2012. PM me if interested in learning more. The topic is called: "Mobile Device Testing...To Boldy Go..." and yes, I plan on having a Star Trek theme.

Hi Jean Ann,
Curiosity drove me to click one of the links in your sig and I ultimately found myself on the Jobs Listings page for MAKO Surgical reading the qualifications for the Software QA Engineer position. The last item of the required qualifications stood out: "May require attendance in cadaver labs or O.R. setting"
Definitely NOT for the squeamish...

Haha Tony, yes, indeed there would be a requirement to attend cadaver labs. I haven't yet due to the project I'm currently on but before I could start the job, I had to be certified in knowledge about Operating Room conditions and standards, Hepatitis A, B, C and other patheogens, how to avoid infections etc. People becoming SQA Engineers here are expected to eventually attend actual operations as well as labs. Interesting stuff...I just never got the chance yet to work on the robot software and it looks like I won't be, since I'm not staying with MAKO. I got two VERY interesting job offers today and trying to figure out what to do. It's good to be in demand and an ego boost after being out of work for 11 months in 2011.

Hey Corey, what are the temps you're checking? I couldn't tell by the numbers you represented. My testing on a mobile heart monitor resulted in temps anywhere from 60 - 75 degrees Celcius - Way too hot for sensitive skin and the cell modem didn't fare well either. But the real problem was the behavior of the software which corrupted data packets, messed up the internal clock of the device, slowed down the data acquisition especially when a patient was generating a lot of messages... basically the patient's data was either wrong or would never reach the technicians for analysis.
Curious what temps you saw in your tests.

Kind of makes you think twice when they use the terms "drop dead date" or "testing with rigor."
