alter table sql in DB_ExecuteSQL statement

How can you add a column in Excel using DB_ExecuteSQL statment

I tried the following but it doesn't work. Does anyone have any other suggestions.?
hstmnt = DB_ExecuteSql(hdbc," ALTER TABLE [Sheet1$] ADD COLUMN {sColumn} VARCHAR2")

Thanks, it seems I cannot do alot of things after with Excel ODBC Driver. Atleast I can update the Excel.
