QTP 11 hangs Win7
      #696836 - 01/26/12 01:51 PM

I've currently got an HP case open on this, and as usual, no resolution - been 4+ months.

Issue - On Windows 7 based systems, eventually, QTP will "hang" (not crash) during script execution.

I can reproduce the issue across multiple types of scripts (Mainframe, Web, Client-Server,etc). The behavior is that I get the Hourglass USUALLY after executing whatever BPT component is associated with opening the IE browser (web), Extra window (Mainframe), and Fsecure window (Client-Server).

I have to send CNTL-ALT-DEL to get the OS attention, select Reboot, then Cancel the Reboot to get access to the OS again.

This issue is readily reproducible on VMs (Vmware sessions) - almost immediately on the 1st script I run - it hangs.

On Win7 Desktops/laptops, the issue may not occur until maybe the 7-10th script. But once it starts happening, then it is readily reproducible there as well.

A Reboot on the VM side doesnt do anythting.

A Reboot on the desktop side normally allows more scripts to run before encountering the Hung system.

Anybody else face this? Ideas?

not exactly the same thing is happening with me...it happens to me randomly and it happens when I open a script, then it shows opening...in the bottom right side of qtp. Then, I have to reboot the system and quickly cancel the reboot to save my unsaved work...

FYI - We found the root cause for this issue - patch QTPWEB_00078 (IE9 support) was causing our Win7 boxes/Virtuals to hang on execution. Not sure if this is some issue with BPT (we use Business Process Testing components with QTP) or not, HP will be investigating.

Once we removed that patch, our automated BPT scripts ran and didnt hang the system.

Hey BfitGar,

Thanks for the response. Is there any case open with HP for this issue?

I am uninstalling this patch. Lets see if that helps.

Hi BfitGar: I had a similar issue and opened a case with critical as the severity. There was an immediate response though the response was not convincing. For us, we see a pattern that it does 10 to 11 iterations for the same test and then QTP freezes. The test was completing 50 iterations earlier with just 500MB RAM and now the server has been upgraded to have 2GB RAM, but it still freezes which is kind of puzzling.

Thanks.

Hi,

Till now, it is working fine for us after uninstalling QTPWEB_78 patch.

@BfitGar-Can you please let us know if you have opened any case with HP for this?

Also, all those who have tried this solution can post their experiences in this thread after uninstalling that patch so that others can benefit.

How do you uninstall the QTPWEB_78 patch?

I looked under installed programs and didn't see it listed there.

SBsteve

Hi,
Inone of my Web based application, I am facing similar type of issue. But that issue is faced only on 1 particular screen. But according to my observation, my application hangs which in turn hangs QTP 11.0. Because, after I end IE session, my QTP works in normal way.
Buit I am unable to proceed with my testing in that particular screen.

It is webedit field from where it hangs.

Can anyone suggest any solution?
Will check for the patch mentioned above.
Thanks.

Is there any resolution for IE9 patch (QTPWEB_78 patch)?

Has anyone contacted HP Support to get this bug fixed with this patch?

If yes, then please let us know so that others can benefit from this?

I did have exactly the same problem with QTP, Win7 and IE8. I even opened a case with HP; however, they didn't manage to help me so far.

I will try out the tip with uninstalling the patch 00078 and if it is a success, I will communicate the solution to HP.

For me, the error occured on two identical test machines set up with Windows 7 and IE 8.

Uninstalling the patch QTPWEB_00078 did actually not help me. I had to uninstall QTP entirely and install it again, without deploying any patches. Now these freezes have stopped.

I have problem with IE9 and W7 too as far as IE9 behavior is concern.

It is more of a art then science for me.

For now I am running my QTP11 in XP with IE8.

By any chance did you have anything in the debug window when you were crashing. Were you tracing a class(object).
