As with all test cases, read and understand the requirements, look for areas that need experimentation, look for boundaries, read the specs and/or discuss the design with the developers, etc, etc.

Writing test cases for password fields isn't different from writing test cases for other fields.

Some things you may wish to consider:
- what happens when you enter a valid password?
- what happens when you omit the password?
- what happens if you include leading/trailing spaces?
- what happens if you use an expired password?
- what happens if you paste in the password, rather than typing it?
- etc, etc.

Asking "how to write a testcase" probably won't give you what you are looking for.

If you really want to make sure you didn't miss anything, you should publish the 30 test scenarios you have, and ask for "what might I have missed?"

You could publish the list here, and/or you could publish the list internally in your shop, then solicit feedback.

Generally the fields themselves are not unit tested as they lie on the GUI layer. Or maybe I'm just confused by the question as it was in the Unit testing forum.

Here some of the cases , it might be useful
1)check username and pwd field labels are correct.
2)check both textbooks are in same length.
3)Ensure that whenever u reach the login screen , the cursor should always focus in the username text box.
4)Check the max length for both text boxes.
5)Enter some values in the username textbox and click enter button , it has to throw validation message , do it for pwd textbox also.
6)For example , if the pwd field allows only alphabets and symbols , then this field should not allow numeric values in it .if the user entered numeric values means , then validation message has to been thrown.

For dropdown:
1)Ensure that drop down label and drop down is displayed properly.
2)Check all the records displayed in the list as per the requirements.
3)Check all the records displayed in the list is in ascending or descending as per the requirements.
4)Check the drop down values can be selected by the keyboards.
5)If there are more records in the list means , provide a scroll bar.
6)Check the scroll bar and top, bottom arrow buttons are working properly.

Hi All
For password field:
1)validate the password field as specified in the requirements i.e length, special character et..
2)validate against uppercase and lowercase
3)validate whether the password field is showing the star(*) format or simple text format
4)check the datatype validation in the database
5)check the maximum and minimum range of password field

For Dropdown:
1)match the dropdown fields with the requirements(which order ascending or descending)
2)check whether selecting one field from the dropdown is coming or not
3)check for the scrollbar is running or not
4)search by first letter from the drop down is appearing in the field or not

Thanks
Sudhansu
