Need a great online software testing class
      #688653 - 10/15/11 05:26 AM

I'm very new at software testing and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to point me in the right way. Do you guys know any websites that offer perhaps free classes. If not, I'm willing to pay up to $1,000 to learn anything about manual testing (and eventually automation).

Thank you in advance for your help.

Then learn this: A vaguely documented requirement is never easy to test against, and rarely leads to customer satisfaction.

I assume you're satisfied you've learnt something, that's $1,000 then please.

Why do I pretend I can switch on and off smugness?

bigcat,

Go and purchase a bunch of books on the scientific method. Understand the proces of testing. Be able to abstract the process from the actual test itself. Apply the methods in your day to day existence for diagnosing issues.

Next, go for books strictly on software testing. Complement these with training in Java or VB, languages of the two dominant functional testing tools out there.

There is no shortcut. Just as you can't learn to cut hair in under 1500 hours of clasroom and hands-on in a lot of states in the US, expect to spend at least as much time learning your craft in software testing as you would in learning to cut hair.

bigcat1967,

While not exactly a "testing class" itself, the best free online course materials I've found are at:
http://testingeducation.org/BBST/

If you are a self-motivated individual, you will learn a lot about testing by rigorously reading the materials presented at this site, and by reading the books recommended.

I should have mentioned that AST uses the course materials I mentioned in their online course for members:
