testing a c# application - any ideas?
      #512015 - 08/26/08 11:24 PM

Hi All,

Have been searching for a few weeks before trying here.

I have created an C# windows application as part of a research project, and I need to find some piece of software to test things such as:
-loading time of the application
-memory usage at specific times or actions
-time taken to send/recieve tcp messages over a network
-hard drive space usage

I have tried many testing programs such as Intel Vtune, clr, AQtime and Mem Profiler. None of which seem to be what I am looking for; and all seem to be highly complex.

Cheers for any ideas.

hmm your requirement seems to be too general.Loading time of application ,where does this load ? is it clicking the exe file to start ?
memory usage at specific time or actions- again depends on testcases which will be performing actions on your application.Task Manager should give a some idea on this.

time taken to sned/receive tcp message over the network-
you can use tcpdump or wireshark to know this, but again whats the purpose for this?

hard drive space usage- Hard to say without knowing what your application does ?

Hi Sorabh,

If you don't want to use any commercial load testing tools, you can use Perfomance Monitor (perfmon) to atleast get few informations.

Umesh

You can also write small C# app to measure:

- loading time of the application
- time taken to send/recieve tcp messages over a network

You just need to play with Timer control.

Regards,
Umesh
