Silverlight Automation help needed....
      #685581 - 09/16/11 02:01 AM

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me is there any opensource tool to work with Silverlight? Also anyidea about IronRuby, IronPython how effective would it be?

I have tried few tool : QTP 11.0, Telerik test studio and read about other tools like silktest, selenium, webUI,Ranorex, Testcomplete, webAii, StatLight, WHITE, and some Image based tools like eggplant. However, I found Telerik test studio is able to work with many complex objects like tool tips, graphs, pie chart. Silktest 2011 also might work with Silverlight.

Still I could not find any opensource tool that can effectively work with Selenium not able to handle these complex objects.

~~
Thanks
Shyam H.

No effective open source tools available for silverlight testing.
You have to go with ranorex,QTP 11.0.

If you are not shying away from writing code, then , as usual Microsoft is your friend:-
[http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645045(v=vs.95).aspx]
Microsoft UI Automation provides a single, generalized interface that automation clients can use to examine or operate the user interfaces of a variety of platforms and frameworks. UI Automation enables both accessibility applications, such as screen readers, and quality-assurance (test) code to examine user-interface elements and simulate user interaction with them from other code. For information about UI Automation across all platforms and in its wider meaning, see Accessibility.

This topic describes how to implement a UI Automation provider for a custom control that runs in a Silverlight application. Silverlight supports UI Automation through a tree of peer automation objects that parallels the tree of user interface elements.
