I am interested in your opinions on a few certification related items. Please let me know your thoughts on the following:
Are there any other reputable QA certification programs outside of IIST, QAI, and ASQ in the US?
In your thoughts, what makes the CSQA and CSTE from QAI, the most highly regarded QA certifications? Marketing? ASQ and ITST both have similar topics in their certifications for QA as QAI.
Thank you! D a n a

Hi Dana:
My name is Jamie Mitchell. Full disclosure: I was previously Director of the IIST and not only hold a CSTE certification, but have presented at QAI's conferences any number of times. The organization that I am going to mention has both Foundation and Advanced certifications for software testers. The organization is called the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) and there is an American chapter, ASTQB. I teach courses for their certifications and hold all of them myself. I am also a member of the Technical Advisory Group for ASTQB (like I said, full disclosure.) World-wide, there are over 110,000 testers who have been certified by ISTQB. The American web site is ASTQB.org. This organization is not-for-profit so they do not make money off you. There are several private groups who sell training which can run from 3-5 days. There are books that can help you prepare. But, you can just take the foundation exam without paying for anything else if you want. Their syllabus or body of knowledge can be downloaded from http://www.astqb.org/educational-resources/syllabi.php at no charge. As I said, I have been involved with all 3 certifying groups (never dealt with ASQ, sorry) and I do believe that ISTQB/ASTQB is worth looking into. Download their syllabus and, if you have any questions, please let me know.

I can jump in and help on that question. Electronic exams are now also available for the ISTQB Advanced level (I think that just started a couple of months ago). You can find the list of test centers at http://www.astqb.org/register-for-exams/electronic.php - it looks like there are currently 11 test centers in New York.

This is great information, thank you very much. I wonder what the cost is associated with taking the exam and participating in a work study group offered by ISTQB or ASTQB.
Thx!

Foundation exam is $250
Advanced exam requires a $100 qualification fee and the exams are $200 each (three total exams)
Training costs can vary, but I recommend reading the syllabus on your own, along with the glossary of terms. These materials should be sufficient for you to pass the exam. Those are available at the ISTQB websites.

Hi everyone new guy here but felt compelled to endorse what Jamie says here. I can honestly say he is spot on,I might be a little byass as I have just completed a course he led and the first step towards my ISTQB certification.I found the information both relevant and educational.
