Hoist one for the rest of us...I might have a bit of the whiskey tonight since its movie night. Nothing like sitting at home sipping while the kids enjoy popcorn.

As for me, I'll be enjoying a nice Reisling tonight, by the fire, with my lovely wife of 31 years.

But on Sunday night it will be beers, wings, and watching the Super Bowl on the big television.

No, the Patriots didn't make it. Most years, the Super Bowl is only played with two teams. And this year the Colts, and Saints are the two.

So I believe that means there's another team that didn't make it this year, right Jake?

Colts 31, Saints 17
Beers 2 or 3, Wings many

Brewed a 5 gallon batch of a "robust" Porter last weekend.

Looks like my batch has finally stopped fermenting and I'll likely be bottling some time this weekend.

Then in another 2 weeks I find out if I have something decent or 2.5 cases of crap!

Hey SteveO,

I just brewed up a batch of Oatmeal Stout. Gave it a shot of oxygen after pitching the yeast and it's now happily bubbling away in the pantry. I'm hoping to bottle late next week.

Cheers!

Very cool! I bottled yesterday.

I bought a (cheap) kit and I'm already wanting to upgrade things and build a better layout in my basement versus hijacking the kitchen to do it.

Shot of oxygen... do you just bubble some into it? Where do you get the O2?

After brewing a couple extract kits with my handy dandy plastic beer setup (worked great by the way) I'm going full bore and making the leap to all grain, 10+ gallon batches.

I'm pretty excited, but kind of taking a hit with all of the various startup costs in doing so. Kind of curious how long it'll take me to make back my investment by making the switch.

You can buy O2 cylinders at Home Depot. I bought the special airstone with plastic tubing at my local homebrew supply store. I give it about 30 seconds of bubbles, which gives the yeast a kick start on the fermentation process. You can knock a couple of days off of fermentation by using a little O2.

If you're really wanting the ultimate in all grain brewing setups, you'll want to build a Brutus 10 brewing system...

Yeah, I'd WANT to build that, but I'm a little more redneck.

I got an old keg that I cut the top out of for my boil pot. Installed weldless ball valve, thermometer, and sight gauge.

I converted 2 60qt. Igloo cube coolers into my mash tun and HLT. I bought a Bayou Classic banjo burner, refractometer, and a couple of 5 gallon kegs to ditch bottling for the most part.

Currently searching for a large chest freezer I can hook up to a temp controller for future lagering and 6 keg kegerator.

I bulk ordered a lot of base malts so my wife kind of freaked out when I showed up with 250 pounds of grain. "But I got a good deal honey!!"

Just thought I'd update the progress on homebrewing.

I love it.

I'm pretty much thoroughly addicted. When asked what I wanted for Christmas gifts I threw out a lot of "more kegs" so we'll see!

I hit that Brutus website again and that is one mean setup. Someday...

I've made 10 gallons of porter, pumpkin ale, and IPA so far and have enjoyed the heck out of doing it.

Getting ready to do a group brewing project.

Handful of brewers are each brewing 5 or 10 gallons of Russian Imperial Stout to age in a Jack Daniels whiskey barrel (75 gallons) for 10 months.

I can't wait!
