IVR Testing
      #549423 - 02/10/09 09:53 AM

I want to do white box testing on the IVR bases applications. Please suggest me which type of checklist I can use to build the testing scenarios.

Define white box testing please. What does it mean to you? Can you provide an example?
Thanks

Charles - this topic is for IVR. However...

To me "whitebox" is looking at code to devise tests - although ideally whitebox tests should be written from low-level design specs. Good luck if those exist. At the link below is an example that speaks somewhat to whitebox / unit testing:

Contrast whitebox with blackbox - where you do not look at source code.

If what the original question is getting at is actually "I've gotta test an IVR, and I'm going after the internals rather than just the end-user experience, is there any way to automate that":

All the IVRs I've dealt with have also been telephony applications (voicemail and related, or audioconferencing). Usually I'm actually testing the telephony and/or audio, rather than the IVR itself, but even if the IVR isn't my immediate test target, it has to function correctly while I'm going after the other stuff. So the tools I use are a telephone for manual tests, and tools such as Hammer, MGTS, Ameritec, SIPp for automation. SIPp is the only free item in that list (telephony tools are usually expensive). If your IVR is also a telephony app and you can get a call into it using a SIP softphone, you could use SIPp to drive your interface, using SIP INFO messages to carry the DTMF. (There's some support for media traffic (RTP) as well, but I haven't tried to do anything with that.)

http://sipp.sourceforge.net/

If your IVR is not also a telephony app, then, umm, consult your developers for automation help.

(If I'm driving test execution through the normal end-user interface, real or simulated, and designing tests based on looking at the code and/or design documents, I would personally call that gray box testing rather than white box. But that's a discussion for another thread.)
