Safari question
      #400772 - 07/25/07 09:37 AM

Does Mac allow you to run multiple version so Safari (not needed at the same time).

We don't currently have a Mac, but will be ordering one. We have a request to test something on Safari 1.3 and 2.0. Does Mac allow 2 versions of Safari to be installed?

Thanks!!

Also, as I look into ordering Mac, what do you think of the Mac-Mini's? They look really neat! I can't see us needing anything fancy, since it's just the browser we really need for our testing.

Any opinions on this? Thanks again!

A Mac Mini is a very economical choice, both in money and deskspace required! I think you'll find it works great for what you're doing.

And yes, you should be able to have multiple versions of Safari installed (and even running) at the same time. Just give them different names. I haven't tried this specifically with Safari, but I regularly run multiple versions of Eggplant at once, for example, with no problems.

Mac Mini is a great choice for a testing machine.

One thing you may want to do is partition the hard drive and install different versions of the OS (10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6) as Safari will actually use some system-level components that are independent of the Safari version in use.
I can't remember the details precisely, so maybe this isn't entirely helpful-- but the underlying OS does make a difference in how your site may perform.
