Performance Counter in ACT
      #322258 - 12/12/03 09:35 PM

Hi
My project is Web based application. I'm going to use ACT for load/stress testing.
I would like to know the ideal value for the following performance counters.

Object - counter-
1) ASP - Requests/Second
2) ASP - Transaction/ Second
3) IIS global - File cache Flushes
4) IIS global - File Cache Hits
5) IIS global - File Cache Hits %
6) Memory - Cache Bytes
7) Memory - Page Faults/Second
8) Memory - Pool Paged Bytes
9) Physical Disk - % Disk Time
10) Process - Private Bytes_total
11) Process - Private bytes (inetinfo instance)
12) Process - Thread Count (inetinfo instance)
13) Web service - Bytes Total/Second
14) Web Service - not found errors
15) SQL Server: cache manager - All instances
16) SQL Server: locks - all instances

I would also like to know, whether all above counters are required for testing the ASP.net applications.

You might want to revaluate what you are want to test with these counters and ensure the counters are adequate for that purpose.
For example I'm using Process\Private Bytes and Process\Working Set and Memory\Available bytes to monitor Memory Leaks.
Memory Page Faults/sec for example includes both hard AND soft faults, but hard faults can produce significant performance issues, not so with soft faults.
If you like your counts then try with one user and 1 iteration and baseline it. This will give you the applications starting point figures.
Hope that helps

How exactly we can find memory leaks from the Process\Private Bytes and Process\Working Set and Memory\Available bytes counters
