      #244422 - 06/05/02 06:37 AM

Hi,

I'm writing SCMP for the project. I don't know difference between them. Could you help me to solve my little problem?

I will be waiting for your answer.

Have a nice day...

While revision management shows development files in progress, a version is a
particular instance of an entire development project. A version is usually
thought of as all the functions, features and complete builds. Files managed, version-labeled and promoted by the revision
management system are used to build the version.

If development team implements any new major changes to the application they label it under new version (base version), if any additional changes implemented under the same functionality they build the patch and label it under revision.

Let's say you write a procedure for document control for the first time ever and call it DC-1 Ver. 0 Rev. 0 and send it around for approval. Someone asks you to change a few things before they will approve it. You make the changes and call it DC-1 Ver. 1 Rev. 0 and send it around again for approvals. Someone again asks for changes before they will approve it. You make the changes and call it DC-1 Ver. 2 Rev. 0 and send it around again for approvals. This time they approve it. A month later, someone asks for a revision to be made, so you make the changes and call it DC-1 Ver. 3 Rev. 1.

Thanks,
smruti

There is actually no difference between the two. there are many people updating the same files, in order to track them, there are revision / version numbers provided.

A Version is a number of the document, it is incremented everytime changes are made to the contents.

Revision is the process of updating contents of a document based on new features / review comments etc
Revision history provides details of what changes were done, in which section of the document and by whom
