Re: QTP Book 2 - Descriptive Programming Unplugged [Re: Tarun Lalwani]

I am glad to hear this Tarun. I have the unplugged book and it is coming in very handy.

What I would find really helpful would be troubleshooting ideas when an object is not found. I run into this quite a bit where I cannot seem to figure out what is wrong. The DP code seems to be correct, but when I run the script it results in the object not being recognized.

I know there are probably strange little things with QTP and objects and descriptive programmin, that you could shed some light on from a troubleshooting perspective.

Look forward to the new book.
Christine

That is pretty much in the plan already

I'm sorry, did the question about Descriptive programming get answered in this post? I looked but didn't see an explicit answer. Oh, your book; $45.00 correct?

I guess buying the book will answer your questions. You could also try a search here as there is days of reading on this subject.

Tarun,

I would probably include a chapter (or two) on:

For Beginner/Intermediate Users:
+ Creating descriptions on the fly (an extension to this article)
+ Concepts of regex/wildcards and if they leave a (an added) performance footprint
+ Alternatives to Object Spy and their reviews
+ Background and importance of TO and RO properties.
+ Common pitfalls with DP (you can include why its uncessary to include 10 descriptions where only 1 would do the trick etc, if its the best alternative when performance is the most important criteria etc.)

For Intermediate/Advanced Users:
+ DP libraries
+ Efficient ways of working with parent objects
+ Simplying object hierarchies (this article talks about it with Siebel objects)
+ Storing descriptions in tables (Excel, DataTable, Access, SQL Server etc.) and their pros/cons
+ Storing descriptions in a collection.

May be you can include some real-time scenarios which helps freshers to understand when and how the DP has to be used.

Adding some stuff about how WPF objects can be handled would be extremely helpful for many people.

Well for that I would need some information from people who have worked with WPF and common issues and resolutions.

Tarun,

I would include a chapter on object identification/AJAX and the misconceptions around this area. You may also want to include extensibility and the new QTP accelerator.

Have to agree, definitely could use some tips on how to get QTP really working smoothly with AJAX. We have the plugin for it but still have trouble. Some ideas on FLASH would be helpful too, or at least a listing of any options regarding QTP when it comes to Flash.

thanks

Hi Tarun,

I have extensive experience in Manual but I am novice in Automation. Can you express the need from manual to automation and vice versa? I didn't had a chance to have a look at current QTP unplugged series.

Can you please highlight the need for automation?

Thanks,
Knowledge_Freak

Hi Tarun,

Its great to see that you are concentrating on object identification and object repository. Could you include atleast a brief idea about how to recognise the objects in all dev environments.

I have this web login page and I need to automate it as part of my job. Here is the link:
https://www.aceproject.com/demo/server01/login.asp?lang=EN
I tried to automate it but qtp recognise it.

Please see my post in this forum regarding this.

Need some help about this, pls.

Regards,
lgrams

Please don't take it negatively. If the book is only related to DP then i would discourage it.

Raj, This book also would be more focused on Technical Aspects of QTP and not the process one. But I do plan to write one which would explain a practical project implementation. Though for writing that one I think I need more experience behind me

Hello Tarun,
Mainly if you focus on Framework Part in "Easy way" and very Depth sytle with example so that each & every newbie can understand very well.

About your "Knowledge Inbox" I have learnt lot from there specially DP......

Please focus on all types of Framework.

With regards,

Diwan Bisht

My kind suggestion would be if some information on Siebel based objects are included in the book, it would help lot of people since this is the area where most of the people are currently concetraqting on.

Regards
Anandh
