how many shared object repositories can be associated with action in qtp 9.
Please guide if and only if someone knows the answer, otherwise don't try to be like "IanF" who did not know the answer but just locked my thread.
the proper way is he should have asked before locking the thread whether I knaw the answer or not, he just THOUGHT that I know the answer and locked my thread. It should not be a thread of dictators but a thread of technical gurus.
I am waiting for your valuable replys
thanks a lot.

I dont think it is mentioned in user guide for qtp 9. I have tried to search this on google, it did not provide any help.
I dont know the answer that is why I have asked this question here otherwise why would I waste my time. I have read much about OR's in qtp 9 but this question is still unanswered.

the maximum i have used was 4(!) repositories for 1 action, the most testcases and actions are scripted with 1 or 2 repositories. i think in a real practical environment you will never reach the limit of assigned repositories.
but if there are a real problem you should ask mercury (sry, HP) for this topic. only the developers of QTP are knowing the exact value for this

I gave my reason for locking the original post. The poster should declared that this info was headed straight to his blog. There have been a few cases lately of people claiming the work of others as their own.
I thought this was another example of that if I was wrong I am sorry...

sachxn, your previous post "who the **** is ****" was edited, this one was locked, not a good start in my book. IanF is a valued moderator of this forum, he works hard to make this an essential aid to budding QTP automators.
as to your reply "Any body in my place would have done this"...... NOBODY in your place would have done this if they knew how much time and effort Ian puts into making this site one of the best QTP sites available.
I suggest you act like a 99.99% of members of this forum (learn --> appreciate --> contribute) or restrict your post to http:\\support.mercuryinteractive.com and wait 5 days for a poor reply (as opposed to waiting 5 hours for 3 good replies here).

How many shared object repositories can be associated with action in qtp 9?
I have just spent some time today reading up on how to create a shared object repository in 9.x, and how share repositories can be mixed with an action's local repository. The example provided in the advanced features manual, showing the use of the OR Manager editor (pg 246) shows 3 shared repositories. Nowhere in the text did I find a limitation on the number that would be supported in a script action, so I am assuming the max number is larger than is practical.
If for some reason I wanted to find the finite limit I would contact Merc (and then post their answer here). If I wanted to ensure that limit was large enough for my planned design, I would create a shared repository and then break it into 50% more than I anticipated needing.
So, do the homework and get the answer, rather than asking others to provide this type of Mercury-undocumented answer for you--which may or may not be accurate.

Hi mwsrosso
How are you.
Please let me know how would you write an unplagiarized material on QTP or Please please let me know any place on internet where I can find unplagiarized materials, articles on QTP 9. Let me know any of YOURS unplagiarized items on QTP.
I would be thankful to you.

Hi Ian
Yup
This is why I locked the first thread...
Is it a rule in this forum "that if someone has asked a question and he is also writing a blog, which some people feel is plagiarized that his question will be locked"

Unplagiarised, by that I mean writing information that you are familiar with, not copying peoples posts and passing them off as my own.

Here is something I'm working on that you will not find anywhere else, bona fide unplagiarised (my own idea/work). I't in it's infancy but the basic structure is there.
I'm writing a webpage from where you can launch a QTP script and set the number of iterations to run:
================================================================================ <html> <head> <title>test</title> <script language=vbscript>
function Flights(fIts)
' Run the Flights test
Dim qtApp 'As QuickTest.Application ' Declare the Application object variable Dim qtTest 'As QuickTest.Test ' Declare a Test object variable Dim qtResultsOpt 'As QuickTest.RunResultsOptions ' Declare a Run Results Options object variable
Set qtApp = CreateObject("QuickTest.Application") ' Create the Application object qtApp.Launch ' Start QuickTest qtApp.Visible = True ' Make the QuickTest application visible
' Set QuickTest run options qtApp.Options.Run.CaptureForTestResults = "OnError" qtApp.Options.Run.RunMode = "Fast" qtApp.Options.Run.ViewResults = False
qtApp.Open "T:\Test Team\Test Tool Team\QT Scripts\Live\regression\UK\UK_OO_Flights", True ' Open the test in read-only mode
' set run settings for the test Set qtTest = qtApp.Test ' Set iterations based on user input numIts = UCase(fIts) If numIts > "" Then If numIts = "ALL" Then qtTest.Settings.Run.IterationMode = "rngAll" ' Run All Iterations Else qtTest.Settings.Run.IterationMode = "rngIterations" ' Run only iterations 2 to 4 qtTest.Settings.Run.StartIteration = 1 qtTest.Settings.Run.EndIteration = fIts End If End If qtTest.Settings.Run.OnError = "NextStep" ' Instruct QuickTest to perform next step when error occurs
Set qtResultsOpt = CreateObject("QuickTest.RunResultsOptions") ' Create the Run Results Options object qtResultsOpt.ResultsLocation = "C:\Res1" ' Set the results location
qtTest.Run qtResultsOpt ' Run the test
MsgBox qtTest.LastRunResults.Status ' Check the results of the test run qtTest.Close ' Close the test
Set qtResultsOpt = Nothing ' Release the Run Results Options object Set qtTest = Nothing ' Release the Test object Set qtApp = Nothing ' Release the Application object End function
' Add hotels test launch code here function Hotels(hIts)
MsgBox hIts
End Function
</script> </head>
<body> <H1> QTP Test launcher</H1><br><br> <pre> Number of Iterations </pre> <input type=submit name=Flights value=Flights onClick="Flights fIts.value"><input type=text name=fIts> <br> <input type=submit name=Hotels value=Hotels onClick="Hotels hIts.value"><input type=text name=hIts> <pre> Enter a number or all </pre> </form> </body> </html> ==============================================================================
Obviouly it needs a lot more work to add more scriptsd and runtime options but I think you will find it's not copied from anywhere.
Do you want to reciprocate with some of you original ideas?

Hi Mark,
I started learning qtp just a couple of month back and not a pro in qtp and it was my idea that I will keep on posting my notes on internet in a way of blog or website. I am not a professional qtp expert as many of you there. I also do coding in many other languages. soon I will be reaching at expert(advanced) level in qtp.
I am fed up with this discussion,it was my mistake,I will not ask anything on this forum again.
please lock this thread also.
thanks in advance.

Someone please lock this thread so it stops appearing at the top of the list.
BTW: it is plagurized if it is cut and paste. If it is an idea rehashed in a new author's wording, I think not. We all stand on the shoulders of those who walked before us. I looked at this blog and can't tell which it is (perhaps because none of my ideas were worth a look?).
But then, here I am acting like one of the children...
