    web services

I am planning to write my own test harness in Java for testing a few of my web services as I did not find any tools besides parasoft (which is expensive). Are there any reference test harnesses that I could leverage?

OK; great. I may still want to build my own tool.

Are there any reference test harnesses that I could leverage? Or at least some good whitepapers detailing the design of test harnesses?

Are you looking to build a harness or a framework? There is a difference... for example: Junit would be a framework and Ant would be a harness!

    A harness would focus on:
    - organizing and executing test cases
    - integrating with build workspace, etc.

    A framework would focus on:
    - common logging
    - common reporting
    - common debugging
    - common API Layer to abstract things specific to your SUT or the technology used for SUT
    - Another example of a framework would be HttpUnit.
