hi can any one tell me what is web content management ...what is its importance in web technology ... what kind of testing it involves ?i have searched on google and got some material ...would appreciate if anyone can throw some light on this topic?
If you already have some material why are you asking such a generic question. Read what you have found and hen ask or discuss here the areas that you need some additional information or clarification on.
well lynne thanks for ur response ..yes i have got some definitions, some topics related to it on google ...but i'm unable to get clear picture of it . the definition says
WCM is the management of both structure and unstructured content that is delivered over the Internet, typically via a web site. Web Content Management includes content creation, site management, workflow, access control, and delivery. Many Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems include WCM capabilities
now by saying "both structure and unstructured content that is delivered over the Internet, typically via a web site "..does it mean you are giving a product which has nothing but everything....what i mean is tht the product tht you are giving contains facility to prepare a site of your own in a easy way but not a prepared site .In this case what kind of testing do u perform
Enterprise Content management Systems or those applications where the end user is able to manage the content of the Web Site means that you are providing a product which can be managed and changed by the end user.
Part of the testing you do is to verify the management and changing of the content in various combinations. You also need to verify that the content of the site after the change is correct.
Basically common examples of this type of Web Site are Yahoo and MSN where if you are a member you can select what you want to see on our home web page for the site.
hey thanks ..atleast the concept seems clear right now ....but as u have given yahoo and msn to b an example of ECM ...i'll surely do some research and try to understand more about it and also wud appreciate if anyone has more to say about it
Web content management system actually lets you change the content on your website. If you have this system, you do not need to always go to the company (who designed the website) to change the content. You can do it urself without having the knowlegde of programming for a website.
I would like to add to the Web Content Management System in a simpler term. Practically if we take a website then it has two sections 1.Admin Section 2.Front-End Section. CMS is in Admin Section, from this section you can make relevant changes in the website's contents and Test if the changes made in Admin Section are properly/correctly reflected in Front-End (End-User's side).
