Testing Tiered Architectured Systems
If you were charged with testing a 3 tiered system (presentation/J2EE; Middleware; resource/application layer), what would you consider the best testing practice for system level testing? Just testing the GUI/presentation tier or testing the GUI and the resource/application tier separately? Is there a best practice out there to list the pros/cons for the approach?
Re: Testing Tiered Architectured Systems
Dmoore, it would depend on what I was trying to achieve with this testing, and when we were testing this at the system level to the development method.
With a three tier system I would want to know how each tier interacted and how the possible contentions could occur in the system.
I would probably do some testing of the layers seperately but would also test the end to end processes through all three tiers at a systems functional and non functional level.

Might be worth a look as a starter for 10.
