    Re: Summary Sheet

What is the purpose of this summary sheet? Are you using this for reporting bugs or this will be used by development team?

    cham,

You may want to post this topic to the Defect Tracking forum.
Or read some QA books and you'll find your answer.
Going cheap huh? Using spreadsheet for reporting bugs? Why not use Access instead?
You'll see what I mean when people starts asking for Reports and Queries (sorted by blah blah blah)...

I am agree with Gilbert. Don't go for excel. Go to defect tracking tools. Many are available in the market some of which are free too. Generating reports on various criteria is also is an important part of testing.

    Re: Summary Sheet

I agree with both of you, ...but imposing the usage of a defect tracking tool is not an easy job. There are a lot of people (dept.) which have to use it, so you have to convince them about the NEED to use such a tool, which I found out that is not very easy (but still possible).

And, reading a report from KLCI, with seems to be a serious organization, the use of Excel shhets is still very commom, even in formalized organizations. I don't suggest this is something good, but sometimes that the way it happens.

    Re: Summary Sheet

Actually if you are going to use it as a defect tracking tool, it might be worthwhile to database it so that the queries can be done and place a web interface on it. Especially if you work in a web development facility...I would make it easy to use, setup an admin section where management can view reports and have a central repository where everyone in your company can access it. If you put it into an excel sheet it can be cumbersome to maintain. Also then the eight pieces that you have listed can be setup to order things however the person wants using a dropdown for the order by statement.
