Here I am a tester in a small firm and given a Web Application to test but this application is totally based on a Client/Server Application which already and successfully exists.
But know the problem is that I am not satisfied with the presentation of the Application. So please help me to get the characteristics of Web Application.
And in presentation, where lies the difference between Web Application and Web Site?
Thankx in advance.

Re: Web Application
The nice thing is that you already have some idea of what the web application should do, which is more than most web testers get. You can compare the web application to the client/server app, to make sure it is working properly. A web site is any destination on the web, whether it is static content like an online book, or a dynamic program like a shopping cart or bulliten board. A web application is the subset of web sites, where the content is dynamic, depending on the program/application.
Web applications based on client/server applications are usually different than the client/server application. Client/server apps have more control over the look and feel, whereas on the web we give up part of that control for access from multiple operating systems and browsers with a standardized markup language. The web tester must verify the compatibility and usabilty on several OS/browser combinations, to ensure they work properly.
Client/server apps usually have less security, because the application is only distributed to authorized users. Web testers must perform more security because policy is not enough security when the world has access.
Also, depending on the type of web application, the web tester will probably do more performance (volume/load/stress) testing than they would for a client/server application. Client/server apps have a fixed number of users (number of employees, number of franchise stores, etc...) whereas web applications on the internet could have a large surge in use.

Re: Web Application
Web Application is much wider term than Web Site.
Web Site depends again on the personal or corporate. If it is a corporate then about the company, Recruitments, etc., etc.,
When it comes to Web Application. You need to check for the Functionality, UI, Configuration, Stress, Load & Performance etc.,
