Hey guys/gals, new to this forum mainly for the reason that my career has turned "web testing" bound. I went from heavily integrated .Net / XML / iSeries As400 insurance gig to creatively driven, web marketing and web design.
Making this minor SQA / testing move has made me further realize software testing as an art will never enter extinction. I'm sure many will agree!
Making this transition was easy for me as I've always been self-driven and I've designed quite a few websites for clients myself over the past decade. The technical knowledge from this aspect of my life transferred nicely.
My last position, Internet Explorer was the only browser in scope and the developer style was non-existent. Now the websites we build are scrutinized creatively by clients heavy in the web design department. This means they need to be functional and render properly in MOST major browsers (although never officially scoped out in SOW Statements of Work but that's a rant for another day).
The main challenge I have right now is the growth we are dealing with. The processes we have in place as SQA, DEV and company wide are infant and fragile. They have improved in my 6mos but so has the work-load and it seems like a constant battle. I am guilty of not contributing enough to this but again, the company is motivated by pace in an EXTREMELY agile environment.
The exciting part about this job is the pace and attitude is 100% different from the corporate culture I came from. It also means there are days where I am barely floating as the sole web tester of a constant team of 3 dev's (1 front, 1 back, and 1 genius who is fluent in many technologies). These guys are my age and I'm having a blast.
Now that I'm done with the intro, feel free to drop me a PM, and I BEG you to contribute to the posts I will be creating in this forum. I know this will benefit the next generation of web testers!
Glad to hear of new yet experienced blood coming into this testing/quality area.
I've been working contract/consultant for the last 7 years in a number of different industries and I can tell you that the web is the way.
So many more applications are browser based or cloud connected now.
My current position is working with a lot of php code, something I've been less familiar with.... but it's always something new!
Glad to have you on board.
wow, long intro. lol. I was on here a few years ago, but forgot my original sign in, so had to create a new one and start from scratch. Great forum though, lots of info here.
