OS compatibility testing for websites
I have got a question here about WHY do we take different operating systems into consideration when testing the compatibility for WEBSITES??? Isn't it enough to test ONLY the compatibility over different names of browsers on any OS???
I think the way the browser and OS talk & work is matter of the Microsoft, Apple, Linux, ...
Thanks in advance
Re: OS compatibility testing for websites
As always, it depends...
Many companies don't take the underlying operating system into considerations. For their websites, testing in various browsers is sufficient.
For others, the usage scenarios of the site, perhaps the use of ActiveX or other non-standard controls, etc, require that operating system differences be explored, in addition to browser differences.
Whenever you prepare to test a website, you first need to decide what is important to test, and what is not. That decision includes underlying operating systems as well as browsers.
