Separating IE from Windows
Our company's stance has always been that our web app interacts with the browser and there is no difference between IE 7.0 on Vista and IE 7.0 on XP. Given that we test generally with one or the other but not both. How do other organizations treat this situation? I'm interested also in whether anyone has hard data that this is or is not the case.
Re: Separating IE from Windows
In most of our web apps, we have found no difference with Vista and XP. For these apps, the majority of our testing is on XP, with just a bit toward the end of the project on Vista.
A few of our web apps also interact with MS-Office. For those we still spend most of our test time on XP, since most of the users are on XP as well. Here though we spend a bit more time with Vista throughout the project.
