Hi Guys I just need some methodology for testing an opensource application openoffice 2.0 .
Actualy I wish to use an opensource Openoffice tool at my work place across the department.
I need to know what can be the software testing process or methodology or documentation that can be done before installing it at my end..
I don't really understand why are you asking for a specific methodology for testing an open source application, after all its nothing more than AN APPLICATION.
If you want to test a tool before using it in-house, then do the same as you would test ANY PRODUCT or TOOL.
For me that is (in a nut-shell):
- Define the requirements I have of the tool (functional & non-functional)
- Generate scenarios and environments to test
- Create a test plan
- Run the test plan
- Reach a conclusion
With regards to additional things you can do, I would start by going to all sorts of forums and communities of people who use the named tool and read, read, read; this can save you a lot of time of testing and verifying things by yourself that others might already have done (specially true if this is a largely used tool).
