The challenges are far too voluminous to post here. You could try:

1. Searching and browsing this forum. In other words you would be using this vast knowledge base along with the search engines.

2. Refer to and purchase and read any one or more of the books listed here:

Re: Difficulty in Web-based testing

Hi Anil,

Off the top of my head, I can list the following potential challenges faced with testing client/server Windows GUI applications:
1) Setting up a proper test environment as similar as possible to the (planned) production environment
2) Testing performance and scalability
3) Anticipating various kinds of errors (network/ server/ technology)
4) Testing security
5) Adherence to GUI expectations and standards

Hope this helps you!

Re: Difficulty in Web-based testing

To echo Inder's reply - knowing what makes up the system you're looking at, what's hiding behind the GUI is key to thorough testing.

Many a more junior tester will view the GUI as if it can be tested in isolation. The risk there is an error is reported as GUI based when it's not. It can be useful to break down what's being tested into different layers.

You might decide there's the GUI, supported by a set of scripts that add functionality, with a network inbetween a database, server, message queue, etc. There could be a whole other set-up of course but it becomes quickly apparent testing of the GUI isn't done in isolation.

I'm sure there's a bunch of deeply technical considerations too but the above springs to mind
