We're using test manaager 2010 as part of our TFS set up and Agile projects template. One of the key tracking reports for us is the Stories Overview report. However the test points column of this report is giving us a result I just don't understand.
We are creating test cases with just one configuation (they are picking up the default we defined). I have checked all the other test plans for this project and the test cases are only used in the one plan. I am therefore expecting the test points to equal the number of test cases for each user story (only one config, each test only used once). However the number reported is 2, 3 or sometimes 5 times the actual number of test cases. As an example we just added 2 new test cases with one configutration for a user story and it is showing as 6 test points.
Have I understood the definition of the report correctly or is there something else I can check to determine why the test points are much higher than expected?
Ok, answering my own query. The tester had also linked his tasks for each user story to the test cases in TFS. When we did a test of removing the task links from test cases for one user story and now the numbers are what we expect. So maybe the report is doing some navigation through task work items to find test points.
