New to VSTE ..
I am considering a trial of VS 2008 TE's support of automated testing (for a web applicaton that has popups for happy flows at a system gui level).
My background is with qtp (the main difference from what I have read is that QTP attempts to mimick user actions, VSTE (when automating web tests) attempts to replicate html triggers from specific pages.
I have been playing around with some newbie tutorials for vs 200 te (using google as my test item - all good) when i tried to do the same on the web-centric application i need use as the trial focus .. something stumped me quickly.
... my initial navigation takes me to a user login / security popup (see attachment - Something qtp would manage easily).
When I play back my record "attempt" on my application I get
<font color="purple"> </font>
a) can anyone point me towards a thread that talks of how these things are best managed ?
Security popups is one thing, but other popups that are not real forms nor true web pages in their own regard are standard to my application(s).
b) Is VSTE 2008 te's test automation inappropriate for my application ? and more suitable for web applications that have all of its UI retained on the web page ?
Re: New to VSTE ..
If you are coming from QTP, where I assume you did functional testing, not web/load testing, I would recommend that you download the Beta version of VS 2010.
It contains an additional new testing tool called codedUI that is meant for functional testing, and is much more like QTP than web/loadtest.
