Now that these 2 companies are giving away their basic PC and server products, I'm betting there will be tons more usage of these for testing. Maybe "Virtual Machines" or "Virtual Testing" will be in the "main index" someday. Anywho, I'm planning to start learning/developing some automated testing using VPC, but I found out it doesn't support USB connections like VMWare does. So I'm thinking about switching, BUT VPC (or actually the server one - Virtual Server VS) has an API so I can write programs to automate starting VMs and all. Does VMWare have an API or some way to write scripts? I emailed them and haven't heard back.
OR if anyone knows of a better VM technology with scripting...please let me know.
After some more research, the VPC API smokes the VMware API. Well, not smokes, but it has one key thing that I need that vmware doesn't.... "SendKeySequence". I'll email vmware and see if they have it, but I don't see it in the doc.
