    ******!! : Unix testing

    Hi all,

We are looking for a QA regression testing tool for Java (non-browser based) applications on Unix platforms and Linux. Could someone suggest tools that may be available for us to use.

    thanks

Jtest (http://www.parasoft.com/products/jtest/index.htm) from ParaSoft performs automatic unit testing, static analysis, and regression testing. It's also available for Linux (as well as Windows & Solaris).

thanks Drea, but we are actually looking for a tool for automation and UI testing on unix and not component/unit testing.

    Re: ******!! : Unix testing

Mercury's XRunner product will work on Unix. Segue's SilkTest has the capability to run scripts on a Unix machine, but it has to be driven from a PC. I don't think SilkTest would be easy to use if you are strictly a Unix environment.

From what I've heard, Rational also has an automation tool that works on Unix. I don't think it integrates with the rest of their product line.

I've used XRunner on non-java applications, and I think it is a good tool. I have used SilkTest on Java app's running on a PC with varied success.

    Re: ******!! : Unix testing

Thanks Atlee. We are currently looking at XRunner. We support Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, SGI and Linux. X-Runner does not support the last 2. I think Rational's TeamTest/Robot is what you mentioned. We have not tried this, but I think SilkTest agent can only be deployed on Solaris and not other Unix platforms.

Has anyone heard of QCReplay from centerline. That may be another tool.

Jayant, I think Win runner will address your interests with UI etc. Personally never used it but as long as your looking, you might as well take a peek.

Thanks Chris. Winrunner is only for windows platforms and not for Unix. Winrunner is preety good so I hear from someone who had evaluated it before.

We support Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, SGI and Linux.

The Inferno tool, from Gresham Systems Assurance, can support all of those deployments.

    Re: ******!! : Unix testing

    Chris,

Actually I din't find any tool that would be appropriate to what we're doing? At the Segue conference I remember them saying that they would have the SilkTest Agent on the unix platforms, but when thats going to be available... dunno.

X-Runner is not supported on SGI or Linux as yet.

The Inferno tool may be a bit too expensive as we are talking about testing on about 8 platforms and it would be a lot of work moving that box around.

QC/Replay another tool, the company says will not be supported on some platforms of our interest.
