Anyone using McCabe Test?
My Company is picking up McCabe Test in the next few weeks and I'd like to find out if anyone who reads this forum has experience with these tools.
Since I am going to be one of the few people using this tool I'd like to hear any sage advice from the experienced folks. Are there any tips for use of the tool? Any best practices? What features have you determined are most useful?
My role is going to be highly visible during the "Proof of Concept" phase esp due to the cost of the product.
BTW: I did not recomend or pitch this tool to our company. I'm just going to be using it. Sound familiar? heh.
Re: Anyone using McCabe Test?
The McCabe toolset is IMO easily the best of its genre -- but expensive -- and Tom McCabe is rightly honored for his pioneering work. His original 1976 paper is one of the most cited in the history of computer science. Plus personally McCabe is a very nice guy.
Having said that, the whole field of cyclomatic complexity and code-level basis path analysis has fallen out of fashion and in some people's opinion has become discredited.
I suggest you do a google on cyclomatic complexity and on McCabe. If you don't find what I am talking about, let me know -- and I will send you some notes on the good, the bad and the ugly of complexity analysis.
