I mostly have experience working on Content Management Systems and General Financial (definitely not in-depth, financial models, etc.). More like general calculations, income tax, etc, basic business logic.
Has anyone have any tips/pointers on how to break into the financial industry? I have automation experience.
Depends on where exactly you are trying to break into. For a tester the domain experience is good but certainly is not the end of it.
One should be able to good at finding problem areas in the system as it has been implemented against as it was supposed to be implemented.
As long as you are good at testing, creating test cases out of requirements then you should be good to start. Then you can get all the domain knowledge on the job.
Automation is an added bonus in your case. You can build on that also.
