i am a beginner to the s/w testing. i have just started learning QA and i thought of applying jobs once i get some knowledge abt the subject. someone suggested me to take some certifications before i apply for jobs because certifications carry some weightage. but today when i was searching for qa certifications i came across CSTE, CSPM etc.. which all require some job experience.. pls suggest me some certifications which does not require any job experience..thanks..
I think the bottom line is that you will have to gain some experience before certifying your knowledge. Plus I would be leery of any certification that is based solely on "book-learnin'". One can study until the cows come home and never assimilate the teachings enough to apply them to everyday life.
I would suggest taking some continuing education courses on software engineering at your local technical institute like Georgia Tech. That should give you a well-rounded view of software development and testing. Most computer science colleges offer this type of course today.
Also, join your local chapter of the Quality Assurance Association and immerse yourself into the culture. Hearing the challenges and triumphs of others in your field will also help in shortening that learning curve.
