I work with a group of about 25 QA folks who are looking into getting their Quality Analyst certification through QAI. I have contacted the QAI through their website with some questions, but so far have not gotten a response. Does anyone have any feedback on the certification exam through QAI? Please let me know. Thanks.
I am myself trying to get my current employer to sponser me in obtaining my CQA. The cost has gone up & you have to be sponsored. There is a demo Manual you can download from there website. It covers 6 areas:
1 - The Evolving Role of A Quality Professional
2 - Prototype Software Testing
3 - Quality Attribute Test Planning
4 - Glossary of Testing Technology
5 - Putting QAI Testing Practices Into Action
6 - Testing the Progress of the Software System
Don't forget every year you have to take one seminar to keep up your certification & those seminars run from $500- $1500(approx)
Having recently passed the CSTE exam, my only advice is: STUDY YOUR BRAINS OUT!!!
Seriously, I found the test to be very difficult. For the multiple choice sections, it's one of those "more than one answer may be right, but you must pick the MOST correct one."
The essay questions are pretty straightforward and are answerable if you study the material they send you. But, you are restricted from the time limit they give you - so be prepared to write very fast!
The exams are hand-graded and you are allowed to supply your own definition of terms, to support the way you answered a question.
I have heard through our chapter meetings that the CQA is extremely difficult.

There is a book list a couple of pages long at the end of the CSTE study guide.
I passed the test without reading any of the books listed.
Basically, you need to know the study guide inside and out - especially for the multiple choice terminiology questions.
For the essay sections - that basically comes from your on the job training, in addition to the terminology. For example, the study guide goes into detail explaining testplans and metrics reporting. You may find these subjects in this section.
