What is the Best Way To Learn Test Tools?

I've worked in SW Test and QA for many years now. I am looking to enhance that experience with some automated test knowledge. What is the best way to learn Winrunner, SilkTest, etc.? Are there any self-study courses?

    Thank you,
    kdcheetah

Re: What is the Best Way To Learn Test Tools?

For WinRunner there are good documentation books available (tutorial, user guide, ...). I have taken a course provided by MI, but I believe learning WR is also possible by reading the documents and (a lot of) learning by doing.

Try to start with small test examples - there's a small sample application available - or try to automate a "real" application (one that you have to test in your job).
But avoid a "real" application for starting if it is not easy to automate (use the GUI Spy to look at the application and see if all objects will be recognized and if enough properties can be read)!

    Hope that helps!
    Regards,
    Juergen
