Which ISTQB course should I do?
Hi, this is a question for people with a knowledge of software testing or QA as a career, perhaps an employer. I'm looking for some advice, so thanks in advance for your interest.........
Is an ISTQB qualification useful for an mid level tester with 3-4 experience? As you're more than likely aware there are two type of ISTQB courses. One is a foundation training course, the other is an advanced course. As a tester with 3-4 years testing experience should I be advised to skip the foundation course and do the advanced training course instead?
I have experience of manual functionality testing only, no automation or linux experience at all. I'm currently looking for work and a lack of automation or linux experience is proving to be a problem. I intend to obtain a Linux cert/qualification as well. With this in mind, what would you advise? Thanks
ps. I also have a computer science degree

Is an ISTQB qualification useful: Yes, at least in New Zealand.
I don't believe you can skip the foundation course as it is one of the requirements to take the advanced courses. You can download the syllabus for all courses from the ISTQB main website. The syllabus for advanced level should tell you what the requirements are to take the exam.
