Hi

This is an interview question.Pls let me know this answer...

1. What is Positive Test Cases & Positive Test Data..

2. What is Negative Test Cases & Negative Test Data..

Note : The Interviewer told not for definations. He requires general concept with example.

Now

What will be Positive Test Case & Positive Test Data ?
What will be Negative Positive Test Case & Negative Test Data?

If X = correct , Y= correct .. then what is this?

If X = Incorrect , Y= correct .. then what is this? Positive test case or Negative test case ?

If X = correct , Y= Incorrect .. then what is this? Positive test case or Negative test case ?

Thanks

It sounds to me like she/he is trying to explore your depth of knowledge beyond a textbook definition.

So... how did you respond to these questions? Quoting an answer of "this is positive/negative" doesn't give a clue to your understanding of that answer. (i.e. why it's postitive or negative and what makes it so)

First, what are defined as negative and positive here. If it is the combination of X and Y being positive to constitute a positive test case then only the first is correct.

The other two test to see that the system can handle negative data (ie won't allow someone to log in without a good password).

A negative test case is one where an error can be expected. Positive test cases are cases where the process is completed successfully.

If X = correct , Y= correct .. then what is this?
Ans: This is a +ve test case and x,y has positive data

If X = Incorrect , Y= correct .. then what is this? Positive test case or Negative test case ?
Ans:This is -ve test case x=neg test data, y= positive test data

If X = correct , Y= Incorrect .. then what is this? Positive test case or Negative test case ?

Ans:This is -ve test case y=neg test data, x= positive test data

Thanks!

jyothsna - first, texting really frost me. Your post and the title of your thread was really hard to understand. Please be a professional and don't text. This isn't a cell phone.

Second - My first question back to the interviewer would be to ask them what their definition of positive and negative testing is. There are a couple of variations and I want to make sure I am answering what he believes the definitions to be.

DS makes a good point here. I actually forgot I was in the Interview forum here. This is something that people have tried to drive into me constantly. Interviewing is a two-way street.

If someone asks you to define something for them, or give them examples of things, you can always ask them how the define this within their organization. This has always been my biggest obstacle in the interviewing process because I always think it makes me look unknowledgable in my job, but if the interviewer truly has an understanding of the position they are trying to fill, they will recognize where there are differences between companies when it comes to defining process and terminology.
