How to start qtp automation?
Can anybody please provide best answer of this interview question please--
"You are given an application to automate. how will you start? what will be your approach? Explain step by step"
This is a very basic question that is at the core of how we Automate and AUT.
If you dont know the answer you are looking at the wrong job.
Any thoughts on how you'd start to answer it?
Perhaps something like "First, I'd dig in and learn the application... read the Requirements... talk to the Manual functional testers... etc"
In general, you'll get your best responses here if you provide your response first, then have others help you build from it.
as per me, first step of any test automation framework is to do a quick POC with few high priority test cases. By doing POC, you will identify the object identification issues, challenges, complexities, required test-data and limitation you have. Once you are ready with this information, you can proceed with next steps. On the basis of above information, you can decide what type of framework is most suitable to you.
but looks like this answer is not accepted.. thats why I am here to get views from all you experts... plz help.
The question as it is is too general to really give a good answer. Answers will vary depending on the situation. You have have answers answers ranging from, "begin automating a quick smoke test that will touch each area quickly", to "first catalog the list of features, then rank them in order of code churn to prioritize what should be automated", or "automate in parallel with development as part of the acceptance/done criteria", or go so far to first build a robust framework/platform for testing. Each strategy has their strengths and weaknesses which you'll need to weigh.

I too faced the same question.
Design the Framework
Prepare the Test Data
Identified Smoke Flow, Sanity Flow Scenario. will start my automation based on this scenario.
this link will be helpful for you i think so Required Steps/Processes in QTP Automation
Learn the application through manually testing, design framework, get feedback on framework, prepare data, run "demo" test case utilizing as many actions as possible.
Patience is like bread I say.... I ran out of that yesterday.
Identify the area which are repetitive, testable and require manual intervention
IF whole project need to automate
CALL building test automation architecture
step by step remove of manual intervention from testing process with automatic program ( by tool or script)
make those script part of testing process
Initially analyse about the application whether it can be automated, then design framework and build poc and then develop test scripts, execute.
