Our company is planning to use automation tools. Currently we do manual testing. What we do here is mostly report testing. All our projects are based on different grade students answer documents and their result testing using different format like PDF. I know there are many tools in the market and most of them are for software testing but we don't test any software here, all are different types of report. But we need to know how can we test the report using a automation tools. if anyone have any idea or advise for any type of automation tools that would be helpful to test our report that would be really appreciated.
Interesting problem. I would approach it with almost any tool made for functional testing and a good diff tool like "Beyond Compare" which is shareware. Then establish a baseline report which has what is expected in it and compare a new report with the baseline. This is a simple method and a homegrown tool would most likely suffice, even if it's a batch file which can open the two reports and run the diff tool against them.
I'm sure there are more sophisticated methods of testing reports, but this would be my first thought on it.
