I am in charge the QA duties of our embedded system and firmware release management. I try to define an formal naming rule of firmware release. But we have five factors (H/W version, S/W version, Language, Release Date and Customization) that should be included at release naming. Could anyone have good idea about this.Thanks,
If you judge people, you have no time to love them.
Here is what is followed for many application s/w products. I have tried to xtrapolate the same to your scenario.
*Establish a product version numbering format that -
* Denotes the main and interim release details e.g. "Mm.Int" I this will give the s/w version no. too)
* Incorporates theH/W version no. e.g. NT/ Unix (or you could have numbers here 01-09)
* Identifies the language eg. (E) (Fr)
* Prestn release date (May-2003)
E.g. "Product A Release 5.1.x - NT- (E)-May2003"
that will translate to Main Version 1, S/w version 1.x , On Hardware platform NT. English release, May 2003
you coudl also add region / country of release India Release.
Hope this is not too late a response.
