Top Defect management tools for Quality metrics and trending
I need suggestions or votes in terms of which Defect Management Tool is best to provide metrics, Trending and there by help in coming up with Process improvement plans.
There is already a Bug repository but doesn't provide trending. Hence the need for a tool which can integrate with the existing repository and get the trending and should provide customization.
Few options :
HP Quality Center,
Appreciate if you can provide your suggestions on the above and also mention your option.
You have 2 types of systems listed, I'll comment on those seprately.
A Bug/Work Ticketing system - Jira and Bugzilla
And a TCM (Test Case Management) - Quality Center, Rational (IBM's brand), Zephyr
For Bug/Workflow - I still like Jira because it has tons of integration being the #1 used tool for this. I like TeamTrack better, however I feel for most people will waste too much time configuring it. Jira is more suited for bug tracking out of the box.
For the TCM, I think Zephyr Enterprise is one of the better out there (Not Zephyr for Jira, that one is hard to use IMO). I like their reports and their ability to "share test steps". Which makes it easier to reduce regression time where test cases overlap. HP Quality Center is probably one of the best in terms of Automation tool integration. HP UFT integration out of the box, and a good facility for executing shell scripts and API for reporting results. For most small companies that do not need enterprise scale features, I'd recommend TestRail since they have a low cost SaaS version with one-way integration with Jira (they technically have 2 way integration, but the pull side integration is hard to setup and requires a lot of work to get running smoothly).
Thanks a lot for recommending TestRail, that's really appreciated! Just one additional thing: we have launched an all-new JIRA integration this year so we have full two-way integration now and TestRail is the only tool providing this combination/level of integration now. You can learn more here:
We also have a lot of enterprise teams switching to TestRail every week because of the many productivity features we have in TestRail so teams can work more efficiently, e.g. such as our new FastTrack interface (feel free to take a look at the video):
Thanks David for the suggestions.
We are looking more from a defects management perspective rather than test scripts/cases execution & metrics. I looked at Zephyr and they are promising. However, i was not sure if they provide me defects metrics. Somehow, i only read about test execution metrics... Not sure if i missed out some..
Rational and QC will always stand out i guess. Any further comments will be greatly appreciated
Thanks Dennis for providing additional details. Will look into TestRail and get back to you with more..
You mention your requirements as being that you already have a bug repository and you want something that can integrate with this existing repository, but you don't mention what the repository is, what connection methods are available, or what your budget is.
As a quick and simple option, may I recommend Microsoft Excel? If you have a method of extracting bug information to a .txt, .csv, or .xls(x) file then you've got the power of charts, graphs, and power pivots right there.
I would like to know ,whether this Test Rail add on for JIRA is free?. Atlassian market place displaying Test Rail Add on is free. We have purchased and configured JIRA .Please reply with information.
