We are currently using TestDirector, but are looking to move to something that basically does the same thing at a much lower price. Does anyone have any suggestions? We're really looking for a Test Management Tool and a Defect Tracking tool. If we could find the functionality all in one tool that would be great, but we are not opposed to using separate tools.
Well I use TestTrack and TCM from Seapine for Test Management and Defect Tracking. It definitely works for our organization and it seems pretty robuts. We have, probably 50 projects across 4 different busienss units, so we need to manage who can see which project and their rights for the project. You can also adjust the workflow for each project, or create new projects using other projects as a template. We've even managed to set up a project for tracking inventory in our business unit. Even though it's not really meant for that, it actually does a pretty good job. Since you are able to call Defects anything you want, we just set up each inventory item as a defect (called Item) and add workflow items to check the item in or out.
You can get TestTrack and TCM bundled for around $1000 a named license I believe, so it's not too bad. However, they don't offer site licensing, so if your org is very large it can sometimes get to be expensive, although relative to some others it can still be much cheaper.
My company created one called kentestman, you can see more about it at http://www.kentestman.com. It's not the most comprehensive tool available, but it's web based, easy to use, does the basics and is cheap.
I won't do a sales pitch in this forum, I just wanted to let you know we do one.
