HP Service Test
Anyone use HP Service Test ? What is your impression ? How does it compare to free tools such as Finesse ?
I have looked at this and was not impressed. First off the xml for the request documents was embedded within the tool, meaning that in the future the XML which you have invested in developing is lost if there is a change of strategy by the strategizers with the house w.r.t tooling. There is no support for JMeter, its service test and the horrible ALM/QC test runner or nothing. Another issue for me was the re inventing of an xml editor inside the tool when oxygen (for example) does the job of creating XML documents much better. The tool seems obsessed to use wsdl to create the test cases. Big mistake imho as wsdl changes and when it does the maintenance of your tests will become daunting. I really dont understand the obsession with using wsdl to create test cases, maybe someone can explain to me what the point in wsdl is for a tester. Cost : enough said I think. C# based means you are limited to running tests on the PC and tool enhancements by testers require C# knowledge, sorry but the world has moved on from this. There are plenty of other reasons not to use this. ST is not for me.
