Anyone used Selenium WebDriver for Standalone Applications?
I want to tweek my BDD framework and use the selenium to recognize standalone applications.
It means I need to launch the exe file and capture rest of the options and track the forms through selenium rather than tracking the web pages through xpath(as the standalone has only number of forms)
Is it possible?
Possible, but not easy.

I'd probably would use a tool like TestComplete or QTP, or just create your own framework specific hook for your application. I've done something similar with Flash/Flex investing a lot of time, only to find that technology was being phased out 2 years later with the browser removing Flash/Flex. I believe the same with desktop applications. Newer frameworks apps to be cross compiled across platforms, and one can just test those apps using Selenium, then recompile the apps to their specific platforms, then do a lighter set of cursory tests.
Thank you David! It is very useful to understand strotinum and let me bring up a framework and see how useful it is.
you could eat a bowl of oatmeal using a toothbrush, but i would not recommend it
